The Grand Highlander is powered by one of three engine options. The base engine is a turbocharged 265-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder with an eight-speed automatic transmission using front- or all-wheel drive.
The other two engines are hybrids. The Hybrid Max powertrain uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter and an electric motor to output 362 horsepower. While the other uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors to output 243 horsepower.
As for their fuel economy, the EPA estimates the 2.5-liter hybrid with front-wheel drive is the most fuel efficient. It has about 37 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. The non-hybrid model is rated as high as 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. And the Hybrid Max model is rated as high as 26 mpg city and 27 mpg highway.
The Grand Highlander is available in three unique trims.
