For 15 years, Toyota has been selling the fifth generation 4Runner to great success. But the 2025 model year will now see the sixth generation be released. This iteration will offer new engine options, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and a TNGA-F frame and suspension architecture. And that's merely scratching the surface. Highlights of the New 4Runner
Much of the new 4Runner takes design elements and features from the Tacoma model. For instance, the new base engine will be the same as Tacoma's. A turbocharged 2.4-liter i-Force inline-four-cylinder produces 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. There's also a more powerful 2.4-liter i-Force Max 4Runner Hybrid. Generally, the hybrid engine and its electric motor produce 278 hp. But with the right setup, it can output 326 hp and 465 pound-feet of torque. Both engines also come with an eight-speed transmission.
The similarities don't stop there. The new 4Runner also has a new front end like that of the Tacoma. There's also three more inches of body width and a wider track. The interior, too, borrows from the Tacoma. The instrument cluster, center stack, and the various buttons and knobs look identical. And there's a 14.0-inch infotainment touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The new generation 4Runner will also have a TNGA-F frame and suspension architecture, just like the Tacoma. Like the Tacoma, the Trailhunter trim is optimized for overland and rockier terrain. It will also feature added skid plates and more rock sliders. Meanwhile, the TRD Pro's suspension will be geared more toward desert running.
