Toyota is leading the charge in the electric vehicle market, developing advanced technologies for its EV lineup. From efficient electric powertrains to cutting-edge new battery technology, Toyota's electric models deliver innovation and performance.

Toyota’s Plans New EV Batteries

Toyota recently held a technical briefing called "Toyota Technical Workshop," with the theme of "Let's Change the Future of Cars." During that briefing, Toyota announced a variety of new technologies, and its long-term and short-term plans for improved batteries.

Toyota revealed it will offer several options, including high-performance packs. Its main, mass-market solid-state battery will be a new, low-cost "bipolar" lithium iron phosphate (LFP). The company says it can achieve a lot with these batteries. They say they can achieve a 20 percent increase in range. They also expect a 40 percent reduction in cost and less than 30 minutes of charging.

The new solid-state batteries should arrive as early as 2027 or 2028. These batteries promise greater energy density, higher electric range, and faster charging. The goal is to put refueling time on par with a gas-powered vehicle and offer an estimated range of 745 miles. With significantly greater range than any gas-powered car and 10-minute charging times, Toyota's battery plans look bright.
